What To Do About A Bully

In Reading Workshop we were asked a question about the book that we were reading called The Revelers. The question was ” What would you do if you were in the same position as Russell, the main character in the book?” We were to comment on the blog post! This was my comment:

If I was in the same position as Richie I would want to consult a teacher but I couldn’t. What I would really do is try to get some friends, tough ones, the kind that could stick up for me.

I would try to act tough about it and not let it get to me. Although I definitely wouldn’t have talked to Richie like that in the first place. What did Russell expect?

Another thing I would do is act like him and follow him. He would get annoyed with me and think that if he left me alone I would leave him alone. Worst case scenario is I would tell my parents and beg them to move but that is worst case scenario.

The truth is Richie scares me, even if he is a character in a book. I probably wouldn’t do anything, I would be too scared. This makes me look like a wimp, I know but most people would probably lie and say stuff to make them look tough but what I wrote is what I would want to do not what I would do.

What do you think. Comment please on either this post or on Mr.McGuire’s post. To get there just click on the link above!

Why You Should Control Your Destiny

I answered a question in the Reading Workshop that made me think! It was called “Why You Should Control Your Destiny.” (Click on the link to bring the post up.) I liked the title so much I used it as well. We all had to comment on it. I read through the comments, most of them are alike. Not that any of us copied, but I think many of us are in a stage of our lives right now ( going to 7th grade next year for example ) that we all do the same things to control our destiny and to steer ourselves to success.  This was my comment:

I think that the person that you are is the person that controls your destiny! So yeah, I do believe that I control my destiny at least some of it. I think I can do things that will lead me to control my destiny for when I get older and now too.

Things that I am doing to steer my life towards success happens in and out of school.

In school I try to get good grades, listen to the teachers, be organized and responsible, do homework and classwork.(I think that helps me to be in collage, high school, get a job and have a good education.)

At home I do my chores, help out my parents, and do extra stuff around the house.(I think that helps me learn how to control my life when I am an adult.)

It may not seem like a lot but I believe these things steer my life towards success and help me to control my destiny and my future.

Change!

Are you ready for next year? I am/ not ready. I am for these reasons:

1. I have been in Elementary school for 8 years! (no offence teachers, you guys are great)

2. I have just a group of friends, I want more.

3. I think I may be academically ready.

These are the reasons I may not be ready:

1. I sort of don’t want to grow up.

2. I don’t want to leave elementary school.

3. What if I don’t make enough friends!?

4. What if I am NOT academically ready.

5. What if the teachers hate me( I have many What-If’s !)

These are my reasons, What are yours?!?!?!?!

3.Watching a  responsible person be responsible!

4.Seeing a  teacher turn a life around!

5.Working with my friends on a assignment.

These are only my top 5! What are your favorite 5 things to do in the summer?

What Keeps Me Reading!

Hey! Everyone in The Reading Workshop had to write a post on our blogs, the subject of it was “The Thing In Your Book That Keeps You Reading.”

The thing in my book, Breathless by: Lurlene McDaniel that makes we want to read more is the way the book inspires me. I think of how the book must have inspired the author and it makes me wonder why she  decided to write a book like this. I guess I just think that if I read more I will get a clue, then another, and one after that, and I will solve the mystery.

Another thing in my book that keeps me reading is the authors WONDERFUL choice of words. Mr.McGuire is always asking us about our  “picture or movie in our heads.” This author put a movie in my head that is breath-taking and exciting! Does your book put a picture in your head?

Saturdays!

So I pretty much wanted to explain Saturday school to people and how some of us like it! As students and staff at Laurelville know what I am talking about and give their own opinion, I wanted to give my own! On other blogs you can find more posts about Saturday School, but I didn’t know how to explain it. I didn’t want to make it long, so it’s easy to read. I choosen poetry. I admit it’s not the best but I tryed and atleast I did that much!

Saturday School!

Hat day ,P.J.,Mix Match too,

All things we like to do,

Things we already knew.

Dress Weird, Act Tough,

Even though we’re NOT,

Saturday school is what we got,

Week day’s arn’t that fun,

So enjoy the last one!

How I Pick a Book!

Hey people! Some of you may question on how to pick a book! I did too! So I decided it would be a smart move to think up my own strategy! This is what I personally thought of:

1.Ask a friend or teacher for a recommendation, if you don’t have an idea about what to read.

2. If they recommend a book to you, look it up or find out what’s it about because it may not be the book for you, but it might be the book for someone else.

3.If you find a book you really like find the authors name, there might be a load of books written by them!

4. Just because it has a cool cover or the main character has an awesome name it might be too hard for you!

5. Never ever get a book that is too hard or easy. Remember, you want to challenge yourself but you don’t want to read it and not understand it!

6. Get a book that when you read the first page you imagine you or someone you know, playing the characters and that way you can see their faces, hear their voices and guess their next actions!

7. Get a book that when you read the first page you want to get in the room and immediately start reading!

This is what I thought, but it is still hard sometimes to find a book! So please help! What are some of your strategies!?!?!?!

Responsibility!

Hey guys! 1st if you haven’t read Mr.McGuire’s blog post called, “Responsibility,What’s Your Policy?”, click on it right now. If you read this without reading the blog post, I am 100% sure you will think I am a freak!(I can be, sometimes hahaha) So save yourself from the question and READ THE POST! hahaha. Now you think I am a freak, right!?!?!?!

Well, after you read it, you should read the comments on it! On the comments I think there are two groups of responsible people, the people were wrote about and the people who wrote about them. You might question this, but I don’t! If you were not wrote about, that’s okay, you did the responsible thing by writing about someone else, so pat yourself on the back! Well it was an actually assignment to write about somebody. This was what I wrote:

The person that I think of when I think of responsibility is Noah.

When I drop my things or another person drops their things he is always right there to help. When people make fun of other people or talk about them, if he doesn’t think it’s right, he stops them.

If everyone in Laurelville Elementary, or 6th grade alone was like him, there would be way more than one video about responsibility!

I believe with reading this, people will grow up more and be responsible. Hopefully, by the end of the year, I will be able to write about every person in the 6th grade.

Did You Get Pinched?

As many of you knew yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day! I saw a lot of green! I even wore green! I wonder where that came from, wearing green on March 17th! I mean when you think of the day, it makes you think green right, but why? That’s something that I should probably look up! Who knows, it might be a really cool story. I have never found a four-leafed clover, have you? The custodian at our  school has and he showed it to me, I was like, “That’s so cool.” I spent all day yesterday trying to find one, no luck! Do you believe in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? How about leprechaun’s? Do you know why we where green or get pinched, if so tell me!?!?!?

Good Weather!

How are you enjoying the weather? I love snow but I was getting really tired of it! It is really nice out and every day, I go home, change into shorts, and go ride four-wheelers, and take walks with my dogs! The dogs are loving the weather and so is my family.

I am getting ready for the pool! That may surprise many of you, including my mom and dad, but it’s hardly hot tub weather any more! So instead of going home and talking on the phone for three hours (my usual schedule), or getting on the Internet and playing video games go outside and smell the fresh air! What do you think of the weather?
